What is a Crypto Wallet?
A wallet doesn't actually "store" your cryptocurrency - it stores the keys that prove you own it.
The Key Concept
Your crypto lives on the blockchain, not in your wallet. Your wallet holds:
- Your private key (secret, controls funds)
- Your public key (shareable, your address)
Think of it like email:
- Public key = your email address (share it!)
- Private key = your password (never share!)
Wallet Types
Software Wallets (Hot)
- MetaMask (browser extension)
- Trust Wallet (mobile app)
- Coinbase Wallet (mobile app)
Hardware Wallets (Cold)
Why Wallets Matter
With a wallet, YOU are your own bank. That means:
- ✅ No one can freeze your funds
- ✅ No bank fees or restrictions
- ⚠️ No "forgot password" recovery
- ⚠️ Full responsibility for security
🔑 Your keys, your crypto. Not your keys, not your crypto.
